Summer Activities in Tahoe

As spring draws to a close, there’s no shortage of warm-weather activities to create a memorable summer of 2012 at Martis Camp and in the surrounding Tahoe area.
There’s the obvious with our award-winning Tom Fazio golf course, 18-hole Putting Park and the Family Barn’s swimming venue and Summer Concert Series—but these great options only scratch the surface.
The list of summer activities is almost limitless, so here are a few we hope you’ll find helpful:
Community Trails: Martis Camp boasts over 25 miles of well-maintained trails ideal for hiking and mountain biking. On the trails, you’ll experience all the wonders of nature from within the community’s gates. Can you find Marty the Bear—the hand carved bear standing guard over the Southwest portion of the community? For information on guided hikes, contact Barn Ambassadors Kelly Eberhrdt or Sydney Stokes, and be sure to check out some great photos from the trails in our online gallery.
Boating Lake Tahoe: Experience Lake Tahoe aboard Martis Camp’s private Formula Cruiser. This closed bow 28’ Cruiser allows members to boat by day, arrange custom tours to the best beaches or schedule a dinner cruise. Contact Robbie Jamison for details. Robbie can also connect you with reputable water ski and wakeboard schools and, jet ski rentals and the like.
Fishing: The 3-acre Concert Park  lake was stocked with 1,500 pounds of catchable eagle trout in mid-May, so summer fishing will be active and  ideal for all families. For the serious angler, the Truckee River is one of the best fly fishing destinations in the High Sierra. Matt Heron is our resident guide, he can be contacted at 518-225-6587.
Stand-Up Paddle Boarding: This new sport is becoming increasingly popular on Lake Tahoe. Lakeshore Paddleboard Company in Reno is a great spot to get outfitted and learn the ropes.
Horseback Riding: If you want to explore the wonders of Tahoe on horseback, the Piping Rock  Equestrian Center in Truckee is a great resource—(530) 582-6780.
Rock Climbing: Whether you’re a seasoned mountaineer or you simply want your family to gain easy-going exposure to rock climbing, Alpine Skills International will hook you up. Call their summer office in Truckee for more info at 530-582-9170.
