Wildflowers at Martis Camp

Summer Season Opening Day

It’s summer season opening day at Martis Camp, signaling our transition from winter amenities and events to those of longer days and warmer weather. A look behind the scenes finds our Ambassadors hard at work, preparing The Camp for the season ahead by updating weathered finishes, planting new flowers, crafting new menus and training new team members.
The Fazio golf course fared well through the snowy winter. Director of Greens & Grounds Scott Bower has been out inspecting each hole from tee to green with our Golf Course Maintenance Team. Every square inch of the course is trimmed and groomed to specification, awaiting the season’s first foursome. Who will be the lucky golfers? Stay tuned! Head Golf Professional Tony Neadeau will share a photo in June’s online Member newsletter.
The Family Barn is humming with anticipation of summer’s upcoming concerts and events. Camp Director Sydney Stokes and our Family Barn Ambassadors have been tuning up the cruiser bikes, readying the pool for its opening day next weekend (Saturday, May 28th), and stocking the Art Loft with paper, paint and glaze for a summer full of Folk School classes and creative pursuits.
In our kitchens around The Camp, Ambassadors have been creating new dishes and designing summer menus. Executive Chef Brett Moseley is excited to unveil new entrées at the Camp Lodge, and Pastry Chef Jenny Dove has been incorporating summer fruits like cherries and berries in the dessert offerings. She recommends enjoying a scoop of delicious house-made vanilla ice cream with fresh fruit to top off any meal. Also, Bar Manager Ryan Jackson has a bevy of new summer cocktails waiting to refresh you at the bar. Food & Beverage Director Matthew Merrill welcomes Trevor Schnitzius to the team, who will be adding his expertise to F&B operations at the Beach Shack.
Beach Shack Manager Kelly Young has been setting out the lounge chairs and lining up the paddleboards at our venue on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Kelly enjoys a unique daily vantage point from the Beach Shack, where just yesterday he reported that surfers were riding waves on the lake out back while professional female cyclists were riding the Amgen Tour of California passing by out front. Don’t forget to call ahead and make a reservation at this popular and active Member amenity.
With so much summer fun set to begin today, what’s the current atmosphere at The Camp? General Manager Gus Jones says, “Months of preparation have us ready for the season ahead. Where necessary, the amenities have been refreshed, our staff has completed training, and we are ready for your first visit. We look forward to what’s going to be the absolute best summer ever at The Camp!”
We can’t wait to welcome you across 2,200 acres, at every amenity and event you experience. As you approach the Gatehouse and explore the community throughout the summer, you’ll be greeted by lots of native wildflowers in bloom – colorful, beautiful and sown to put a smile on your face. You can be sure that, in many places, even this detail was planned well ahead of time — by a resident aficionado with pockets full of seeds who shall remain unnamed, but not unnoticed.
Enjoy opening day, and welcome to Summer at The Camp!
