The Perfect Summertime Weekend here at Martis Camp

Stumped on where to go? What to do? Fret no more with our guide to creating the ultimate Martis Camp weekend.

It’s one of those Martis Camp weekends where everything seems ideal. Or just about. Skies are blue. Winds are non-existent. And the forecast is for cool nights and pleasant days. There’s only one thing keeping this summer weekend from being a perfect weekend: a plan. Not a problem. If you’ve got time on your hands and adventure on your mind, we’ve got a few suggestions for how you can take that Martis Camp weekend from good to great to perfect.

DAY 1: FULL CIRCLE FROM THE FAMILY BARN.
8 am – Breakfast at The Family Barn.
What better place to begin a summer day than by dining at a barn – specifically the Family Barn. This heart-of-the-camp destination serves up classic breakfast specials like omelets, French toast, and Huevos Rancheros in an atmosphere perfectly suited for revving up your engines.

Martis Camp Family Barn breakfast

9 am – From flapjacks to back casts.
Now that you’ve been lured away from the breakfast table, it’s time to kick the day in gear, a journey of a hundred steps or so – to Concert Lake, beside the Family Barn. Don’t be thinking this is a simple pond with guppies and minnows, as you may find out when you hook into one of the lunkers that cruise its waters. To help you refine your skills, we’ve got Saturday Cast & Catch clinics all summer long, with instruction from Matt Heron Fly Fishing, one of Truckee’s most illustrious fly fishing guides.

10:30 AM – Down the alley or up in the Loft.
Back to the barn for some pre-lunch activities that can include a few frames of family bowling or an inspiring session in the Art Loft. At the top of these colorful stairs, a room of good vibes and great classes unfold before you. Our Folk School is staffed by highly qualified instructors from across the country, each one well-versed in a variety of skills like painting, jewelry making, wood carving and photography. Either dive in and refine your skills or sit back and watch as imaginations flourish.

Martis Camp Zip Line

NOON – Enjoy a burger and a side order of Tarzan.
You know that place where you were hopping onto chairlifts and celebrating apres just a few months ago? Well, in the summertime it transforms into a jungle of laughter and activities in a world we call the Aerial Adventure Park where you’ll encounter four courses ranging from beginner to advanced, as well as a terra firma course for kids 4 and younger. And nearby, the temptations of fine food al fresco are calling from the deck of Lookout Lodge, a bright and sunny place to order up lunch.

2 pm – Cannonballs for the kids, massages for the parents.
Cut the kids loose at the Family Barn for an afternoon of supervised swimming, Kids Camps, basketball and games while you hang a left and head off to the Camp Lodge for some well-deserved pampering or a high-intensity workout. The Spa at Martis Camp is renowned for body treatments, massages, skin care, nail therapy and other indulgences while the Fitness Center offers a saline lap pool, personal trainers, hot tubs and steam rooms, and state-of-the-art exercise equipment.

6 pm – Fine wine and even finer fare
The only thing better than the view from the Cliff Room is the culinary experience that you’ll find before you, prepared by our exceptional culinary team and Executive Chef Conor Ball who was named 2024 Club + Resort Chef of The Year (see page 108). Find yourself here on a Thursday night this summer and you can also enjoy an evening of Martis Camp’s Summer Wine Dinner Series that pairs the best of the best.

7 pm – An evening of music under the stars.
With a day of action, adventure and fine food under your belt, you’re due for an evening where you can pull up a chair on the grass and settle into the Family Barn Theater. Each summer we serve up a concert series that has featured the likes of Kenny Loggins, Randy Newman, Lyle Lovett, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Tower of Power to name a few. This year’s lineup includes Andy Grammer, Tainted Love, The Beach Boys, Ingrid Andress, and Live 61.

Catch up on your sleep. Day Two is just around the corner.

Day 2: FROM BIRDIES TO BEACHES TO BURGERS AND PICKLEBALL.

7:30 am – Perks and pastries.
For those who pledge allegiance to a cup of coffee, we present you with a fine cuppa Joe from Martis Perk, along with a fresh pastry. Just a couple of key ingredients to another amazing day.

Martis Camp Tom Fazio Golf course 18th hole golfer

8:30 am – Golf, the big and small of it.
You’ll find championship golf at Martis Camp that comes in two sizes: one, Tom Fazio’s award-winning 18-hole course that GolfWeek named “one of America’s Top 50 Modern Golf Courses”; and two, an 18-hole Putting Park designed by Dick Bailey that weaves between ponds, pines and creeks and a dazzling display of cabin architecture.

Noon – The amazing effects of sandcastles and sandwiches.
Now that you’ve filled out your scorecard, how about filling up your afternoon with a trip to Martis Camp’s Beach Shack at Lake Tahoe. You’re there in no time flat with valet parking and a stretch of sand where you’ve got beach toys, paddleboards, and even a private 35’ yacht when ordered in advance. We’ve even got you set for towels, a changing room, a tempting menu, and a front row view of that lake known as one of the worlds’ most beautiful.

Martis Camp Pickleball

3 pm – Backhands, forehands, and a rush to the net.
Assuming you’re able to pull yourself away from Tahoe’s beguiling beauty, then consider indulging in an appearance in court – either tennis or pickleball. Martis Camp’s Tennis Pavilion serves up four hard surface courts, a full service pro shop and lessons, clinics and kids camps. For those who prefer the more intimate, fast-paced action of pickleball, you’ll find six courts at the Sports Field & Park Pavilion.

6 pm onward – Concluding the day with an evening at the Barn.
The perfect ending to a perfect weekend involves a casual, take-your-time dinner at the Family Barn. The cozy atmosphere is an ideal setting to enjoy small talk between bites of burgers, tacos and salads. Afterward, put the phones on silence and settle into a comfortably luxurious 44-seat theater, complete with a full bucket of popcorn. Now that is a happy ending!
