When searching for inspiration and a break from the pace of the everyday world, there is nothing like the power of the great outdoors to awaken the spirit and soothe the soul. From painters and writers to artisans and athletes, all have gained new focus in their work and been recharged by the forces of nature. Engage in a unique Folk School experience and celebrate the beauty that is all around us with The Great Artdoors.
Over the course of two days, choose your adventure package into the arts and take up to four classes. In addition to learning new skills and exploring different art forms, enjoy a buffet lunch by the lake with fellow students and instructors, fostering a community bond between artists. This immersive experience in the world of art will leave a lasting impact for years to come.
Found-Object Textile Printing • Instructor: Kelly Wallis of Atelier • $65 per person
Learn about the process of printmaking, then take a relaxing walk together to
find materials with intriguing textures and patterns. Leave class with three organic cotton textiles with one-of-a-kind prints.
Native American Spirit Drums • Instructor: Justen Bear • $150 per person
Connect with craftsmanship and music as you journey into the spirituality behind an important part of history while making a 14-inch Native American-inspired drum.
Oil Pastel Landscapes • Instructor: Anke Hass • $65 per person
Learn about the power of perspective and atmosphere by exploring color and scale using oil pastels, creating sublime landscapes like never before.
Ceramic Hanging Planters • Instructor: Sean Bunnell • $75 per person
Using both wheel and hand-building techniques in an outdoor setting, craft a functional piece of art to hang in your home or garden.
Lakeside Watercolors • Instructor: Eva Nichols • $65 per person
Learn the techniques and application methods to transform watercolor paints into stunning and colorful plein air paintings.
Walkabout Photography • Instructor: Grant Kaye • $45 per person
From smartphones to DSLRs, all cameras are welcome as we learn “the art of seeing” through the fundamentals of composition. Together we’ll take a walk and discuss exposures, shutter speeds and depth of field to bring your photography to life.
Fly Fishing – Tying and Casting • Instructor: Matt Heron • $150 per person
Our resident fishing expert guides you through the art of crafting fantastic flies and casting into the waters of the Concert Park Lake.
