On Fourth of July weekend of 2009, we opened the Family Barn with a grand celebration of dinner, live music and square dancing. The Family Barn was a groundbreaking concept – not only because of its name but also because of the many wonderful things it included – a soda fountain, theater and bowling alley
among them. The Art Loft was especially of interest as a creative place where spilled paint and artistic experimentation is welcomed.
This July, we can’t wait to celebrate the Family Barn’s 10th birthday and the astonishing amount of memories created in the decade since its opening. Summer concerts and dancing, and New Year’s Eve balloon drops and fireworks. Marshmallows around the firepit and hot fudge sundaes. Pool parties, egg hunts, hoedowns and outdoor movies. Stargazing, storytelling, and countless Folk School classes and workshops! Thanks to you, the Family Barn has become the heart of The Camp through the quality time you spend here every season with your family and friends.
This summer brings more ways to enjoy time together throughout the season. We hope to see you during Memorial Day weekend for the Member-Member Madness golf competition, followed by the Taste of Asia Dinner & Lion Dance with an enticing menu and lively entertainment. Our Summer Concert Series kicks off with the Gin Blossoms on June 29th, and our Summer Wine Dinners feature seven winemakers from June to August. The July holiday week is highlighted by the Kids Camp Out, our Fantastic Fourth Celebration & Family Barn Birthday, Pop Rocks in concert and our spectacular Summer Family Festival.
The Martis Camp Community Foundation hosts its second annual Auction Gala & Dinner on Saturday, July 20th. Bring your friends to this evening for a great cause, and have some fun bidding on special items including exclusive dining experiences and golf getaways around the world.
Beyond all of this summer’s activities and events, The Camp is forever a place of great beauty in the outdoors. We hope you’ll explore the trail network, relax at the pavilions, kick off your shoes for a stroll around the Putting Park, or book the brand new Camp Cruiser and spend some time gliding around Lake Tahoe.
The Family Barn opened 10 years ago with a vision of how life at Martis Camp would be. Here’s to that vision, the memories shared and the friends made, and the plenitude of living the dream.
